If this blog wins at anything, I hope it's convincing you that you don't need a month to ‘experience’ Iceland. Yeah, yeah, I know you'd happily stay that long if you had the chance, but what I’m saying is, a well-planned Iceland 6 day trip itinerary still gives you a brilliant first taste of everything that makes the country so magnificent!
This particular Iceland 6 day tour itinerary can lead you to its glaciers, waterfalls, black sand beaches, geothermal lagoons and even the Northern Lights. Let me show you exactly how we'd spend six valuable days in Iceland for you to get the best of them.
Day 1: Meet Reykjavík, Iceland's Capital
Your Iceland 6 day itinerary should begin in Reykjavík, the world's northernmost capital and, despite its size, one of Europe's most beautiful cities!
After checking into your hotel, don't worry about squeezing in a long sightseeing list. Instead, spend your first evening getting a feel for the city. Wander past the colourful houses around you, stroll along the old harbour, admire the Harpa Concert Hall, or maybe simply settle into a cosy café before settling in for a good night’s sleep.

Day 2: The Golden Circle and Iceland's Geothermal Heart
The second day should be all about the famous Golden Circle, a route that brings together some of the country's most iconic natural wonders. Watch Strokkur Geyser burst into the sky every few minutes, marvel at the immense power of Gullfoss Waterfall and stand inside Þingvellir National Park, one of the very few places on Earth where you can literally walk between two tectonic plates!
Later, you can relax with a dip in the naturally heated waters of the Secret Lagoon and by the end of the day, you'll understand why the Golden Circle remains the country's most famous introduction.
Day 3: Waterfalls, Black Sand Beaches and Maybe Your First Aurora?
The South Coast is home to some of the country's most recognisable landscapes, and you'll understand why on this fabulous day. Stand beside the mighty Skógafoss Waterfall first before continuing towards Reynisfjara, where volcanic black sand, towering basalt columns and powerful Atlantic waves come together to create one of Iceland's most photographed beaches!
As evening approaches, you will arrive around the Kirkjubæjarklaustur region, one of Iceland's best locations for escaping city lights. If you're travelling during aurora season, tonight brings your first opportunity to witness the Northern Lights, so keep your heads high and eyes wide open!

Day 4: Glaciers, Icebergs and Another Chance at the Aurora
Begin your day exploring the remarkable landscapes of Skaftafell National Park, where you’ll find glaciers spilling down from Iceland's vast ice caps, along with hiking trails through one of the country's most beautiful regions.
From there, you can continue to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where you’ll spot gigantic blue-white icebergs drifting towards the Atlantic Ocean. And if conditions are right, you may also spot Diamond Beach nearby, where chunks of glacial ice wash ashore against volcanic black sand, creating one of Iceland's most spectacular sights…
Later in the evening, you'll once again have the chance to gaze skywards in search of the magical Northern Lights with your guide!
Day 5: One Last Taste of Iceland
Every Iceland journey eventually finds its way back to Reykjavík, but not before a few more memorable stops. On this wonderful day, travel through ever-changing volcanic landscapes before visiting Hveragerði, Iceland's fascinating geothermal town, where steaming vents and bubbling earth remind you that the island is still very much alive beneath your feet…
You can also stop at the historic Strandarkirkja, often called Iceland's "Miracle Church," before returning to Reykjavík. With some free time in the evening, perhaps pick up a traditional Icelandic wool sweater, enjoy one final seafood dinner or simply take another walk through the city's colourful streets before your journey almost reaches its end.
Day 6: Until Next Time
By now, you'll probably understand why so many travellers leave Iceland already planning their return.
After breakfast, transfer to Keflavík International Airport for your onward journey home, carrying memories of glaciers, waterfalls, geothermal lagoons, black sand beaches and, if luck was on your side, the magical Northern Lights.
