Mauritius · 1 handcrafted journey
The place is probably saved to a thousand honeymoon Pinterest boards, and you might've seen it play over the credits of a bunch of Bollywood songs. It's the desktop wallpaper most of us had at some point, the screensaver on a hotel lobby TV, and the stock photo behind every couple vacation ad you've scrolled past. You've been looking at Mauritius for years without knowing its name…
The destination
Mauritius is barely 65 kilometres long, yet it holds an entire world inside that. There's Chamarel's Seven Coloured Earth, sand dunes that change between shades of red, purple and gold, Le Morne, a mountain sacred to descendants of escaped slaves, standing over some of the calmest lagoons in the Indian Ocean. And there's the ghost of the dodo, the flightless vanished bird that lived nowhere else on Earth. Mauritius has spent centuries as a crossing point; African, Indian, Chinese, French and British influences all settled into one small island, and you can taste, hear and see all of them today.
