Egypt · 4 handcrafted journeys
Maybe it was a Sunday afternoon rerun of a mummy rising from its sarcophagus, or a textbook photograph of the pyramids you traced with your finger as a kid. Maybe it's Cleopatra's name, or a documentary on pharaohs on ‘Discovery’, or how we all learned that the longest river in the world was the Nile back in school. Anyway, Egypt is there in all our imagination one way or another…
The destination
The pyramids were already 2,500 years old by the time Cleopatra ruled the country, meaning she's closer in time to the moon landing than to the pyramids themselves. This is a place where you can watch the sun rise over temples that have stood since before the wheel was common, sail down the same Nile that carried grain to feed an empire, and walk through tombs still holding colour on their walls after four millennia underground. Beyond the monuments, there's also the living, present-day Egypt; in Cairo's streets, the Sharm El Sheikh or the Grand Egyptian Museum that tells the story.
