‘The Land of a Thousand Lakes’ that’s what they call it. But thousand? Someone stopped counting too early, Finland is home to over 180,000 lakes! In its northern reaches, Lapland spends weeks in total darkness through winter and weeks in unbroken daylight through summer, something most of the world never experiences. That same darkness makes it one of the most reliable places on Earth to see the Northern Lights, while summer flips it entirely with the Midnight Sun. The Finns also take their architecture as seriously as their saunas, of which there are more in Finland than cars.
