An Alpine Appetiser: A Day in Innsbruck
Okay, you won’t be finding an Eiffel tower level icon here, because Innsbruck's main attraction is the fact that you can’t look in any direction without seeing the Alps. With that said, your first stop should be the historic centre, where colourful medieval buildings line the streets and the famous Golden Roof remains one of the city's most recognisable landmarks.
Also, don't make the mistake of treating Innsbruck as a place you simply pass through on the way to somewhere else. It's a place that lets you put the itinerary aside for a while and experience the city on your own terms. Spend a little time in the Old Town, wandering through the old lanes, stopping at cafés and bakeries, look up more often than you look at your map, and accept that your camera roll is about to become heavily mountain-themed.
If you have a little extra time, sampling Tyrolean specialities or sitting down for Austrian coffee with mountain views is never a bad idea. Oh, how I wish I had another day here.
Second Day: One Long Excuse to Stare Out the Window…
You can start the day with a visit to the Swarovski Crystal Museum, home to immersive art installations, elaborate crystal chambers and some remarkably creative displays that offer something completely different from the mountain scenery you've been seeing so far.
From there, the journey towards Salzburg is easily half the experience! The drive takes you through some of Europe’s most beautiful Alpine scenery. You can include a stop in Kitzbühel, a pretty Tyrolean town that's well worth stretching your legs in. Take a walk through its streets, grab a coffee and enjoy the place before continuing onwards.
By the time you reach Salzburg, Austria feels different again. The mountains are still there, but the city might feel a little old, with Baroque architecture, grand church domes and a hilltop fortress watching over it all…
Spend the evening exploring the Old Town at your own pace, browse local shops, find a traditional Austrian restaurant and simply enjoy being in one of the country's most beautiful cities before the next day’s adventures begin.

Third Day: The Problem With Salzburg
If you spent the previous evening getting your first glimpse of Salzburg, today is when you actually get to understand why people love it so much. A short orientation around the city will show you that Salzburg is far more than Mozart's hometown.
This is also a good place to slow down for a coffee, try a slice of Sachertorte or simply spend some time exploring beyond the main landmarks. Salzburg is one of those cities where the spaces between attractions are often just as enjoyable as the attractions themselves.
From here, continue towards St. Wolfgang, a beautiful lakeside village, where wooden balconies, mountain backdrops and lake views somehow become the norm within a few minutes of arriving.
The scenery continues on a cruise across Lake Traunsee, where you'll pass historic lakeside castles and some of the region's most beautiful landscapes. More importantly, it offers a chance to experience a side of Austria that often gets overlooked in favour of its cities and ski resorts. So, definitely, don’t miss that.
Vienna Waits For You…
By the time you arrive in Vienna, you'll probably be tempted to head straight to your hotel and call it a day. But resist that urge if you can. Even a simple evening walk through the city centre, a stop at a traditional café or a leisurely dinner is enough to understand why Vienna consistently ranks among Europe's most liveable cities.
The following day can be used to explore the Austrian capital properly. A drive along the Ringstrasse introduces many of Vienna's most famous landmarks, from grand museums and historic buildings to elegant public spaces that still reflect the city's imperial past.
Beyond the landmarks, Vienna is a city best experienced slowly. Spend some time in one of its historic coffee houses, sample classics like Wiener Schnitzel or Sachertorte, browse local shops and simply enjoy the city’s feel.
Later in the evening, perhaps visit the Grinzing district, a completely different side of Vienna. Known for its traditional wine taverns and relaxed atmosphere, it feels far removed from the formal architecture of the city centre and offers a glimpse into a more local, everyday side of the Austrian capital…
