Table of Contents

‘The most’. There's a lot you can say after those two words when the answer is Norway.

The most breathtaking landscapes? The most spectacular fjords? The most scenic train journeys? The most stunning mountain roads? The most beautiful drives? Lots of superlatives, people, lots of them.

And if you ever find yourself there on a bright summer day, with the sun glistening over emerald fjords, waterfalls pouring down steep cliffs and snow-capped peaks in every direction, you might just think there's nowhere else in the world you'd rather be. So, whether you're planning to visit Norway for the Northern Lights, cruise through the fjords, ride the legendary Flåm Railway or are simply on the hunt for good Norway tour packages from India, here's everything you need to know before you take the next step.

The Best Time to Visit Norway: Seasons, Weather and When to Go

One of the first things to decide before booking your holiday to Norway is the ‘when’, because the country will be totally different depending on when you go…

Spring (April to May) sees the country slowly waking up after winter. Waterfalls are at their strongest thanks to the melting snow, the countryside begins turning green again and sightseeing becomes far more comfortable before the summer crowds arrive!

Summer (June to August) is the most popular time to visit Norway. The weather is pleasant, fjord cruises operate at full capacity, hiking trails are open and parts of northern Norway experience the famous Midnight Sun. If you're visiting Norway for the first time, this is usually the easiest season to experience everything the country is known for.

Autumn (September to October) brings colourful forests, calmer attractions and crisp weather. It's an excellent time for scenic drives, railway journeys and yeah, photographs!

Winter (November to March) changes Norway into one of Europe's finest winter destinations. Snow blankets the mountains, Christmas markets appear across the cities and the north becomes one of the world's best places to witness the Northern Lights. It's also the season for Norway's most exciting adventures like dog sledding across Arctic landscapes, snowmobiling through frozen valleys, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing and even spending a night in an ice hotel.

Many of our Norway tour packages from India are planned around summer and winter, allowing travellers to experience two completely different versions of the country.

Popular Places to Visit in Norway: Fjords, Cities and Arctic Wonders

Oslo

Oslo may be Norway's largest city, but it rarely feels too ‘big’ when you’re there. Wide streets, open waterfronts, excellent museums and thoughtfully designed public spaces make it one of Europe's easiest capitals to explore. You'll find world-class museums, modern architecture, waterfront cafés and plenty of green spaces, all within a city that's surprisingly easy to walk on. Visit the Opera House, stroll along Aker Brygge, discover Viking history at the museums or spend an afternoon simply enjoying the feel of the place.

Bergen

Bergen is usually where travellers get their first proper introduction to fjord country. The first thing you'll notice is Bryggen. Rows of colourful wooden merchant houses line the harbour, reminding you that this was once one of the most important trading ports in Northern Europe. From there, perhaps hop aboard the Fløibanen Funicular to Mount Fløyen for beautiful views over the city, the harbour and the surrounding mountains. Back at sea level, wander through the famous Fish Market, where you'll find everything from fresh salmon to king crab, before using Bergen as your base to explore Norway's spectacular fjords!

Flåm

Flåm is tiny. Blink and you'll probably miss the village itself (sorry, that went a bit too far).

Nestled at the end of the Aurlandsfjord, Flåm is the starting point of the famous Flåm Railway, widely regarded as one of the world's most scenic train journeys. In less than an hour, the train climbs from the fjord through impossibly steep mountainsides, past waterfalls, deep valleys and tunnels carved straight into the rock. Talk about views!

Stay for the scenery, take the train, and if time permits, pair it with a fjord cruise…

Geirangerfjord

Even if you've never heard its name before, chances are you've already seen it somewhere. It's the one with impossibly steep cliffs, and waterfalls dropping hundreds of metres straight into the water!

It's also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to the famous Seven Sisters waterfalls. Drive the winding roads to viewpoints such as Ørnesvingen or Flydalsjuvet, take a fjord cruise, or simply stop whenever the road gives you another excuse to pull over. And trust me, it will. Among all the places to visit in Norway, this is one of those landscapes that makes you understand why people travel halfway across the world.

Tromsø

Sitting well above the Arctic Circle, it's one of the best places in Norway, or even the world to witness the Northern Lights. But chasing the aurora is only half the story.

This is where you can go dog sledding through snow-covered forests, ride snowmobiles across frozen landscapes, meet the indigenous Sami people and learn about their Arctic traditions, or head out on fjord cruises in search of whales during the migration season! Even without the Northern Lights, Tromsø easily earns its place among the best places to visit in Norway.

Lofoten Islands

lofoten village.jpg

There's a very good chance the first few photographs you see when you search ‘Norway’ on google were taken in the Lofoten Islands.

Mountain peaks rising out of the sea, with colourful fishing cabins and little villages right along the shoreline? This is the image most people unknowingly associate with Norway. Although they don't always feature in shorter group holidays, they're among the most rewarding additions to tailor-made Norway holidays. If you'd like to explore Norway beyond the usual highlights, our personalised holidays make experiences like Lofoten much easier to include.

Top Things to Do in Norway, No Matter Who You Are

Well, here’s some of my recommendations.

A fjord cruise is almost compulsory. Gliding quietly between cliffs while waterfalls tumble hundreds of metres into the water below is surely one for the bucket list.

The famous Norway in a Nutshell journey remains equally popular, bringing together scenic railways, fjord cruises and mountain landscapes into one stunning route.

If you're travelling in winter, chasing the Northern Lights should obviously be high on your list. After all, watching green ribbons dance across an Arctic sky is surely that bucket list headliner!

Summer, meanwhile, offers something entirely different. Hiking, kayaking, cycling and even witnessing the Midnight Sun become part of everyday life in Norway.

Food lovers can discover fresh seafood, Arctic king crab, salmon, brown cheese and local Nordic cuisine, while culture enthusiasts can explore Viking history and experience traditional Sami culture in northern Norway. Whether your idea of a holiday involves adventure or simply admiring incredible scenery, Norway manages to give you both.

Planning Your Norway Trip: How Many Days Are Enough?

The answer depends entirely on how much of Norway you'd like to experience.

A Norway itinerary for 4 days works well if you’re clubbing places like Stavanger, Oslo and Bergen into a longer Nordic holiday. This is the choice for many first timers when it comes to Norway trip packages from India, as you'll have enough time to experience the capital, enjoy the scenic sides, spend time around the fjords and cover other destinations or countries in the process.

However, Norway's biggest attractions are spread across the country. So if you’re doing a standalone Norway holiday, it's best to choose a Norway itinerary for 12 days, bringing together Norway with neighbouring Scandinavian countries such as Sweden and Denmark.

Travellers looking to explore only Norway generally prefer our tailor-made holidays, where every destination, hotel and experience can be customised according to their interests. Connect with our experts to create a Norway holiday built around the way you like to travel.

Visa Requirements, Entry Rules and Important Information

Indian citizens travelling to Norway require a Schengen Visa. Since Norway is often clubbed with other Scandinavian destinations, applying well in advance is always recommended.

Norway's public transport system is among the best in Europe. Trains, ferries, domestic flights and scenic roads connect most major destinations, making travelling around the country efficient. As with any European holiday, comprehensive travel insurance, weather-appropriate clothing and advance planning contribute significantly to a smooth travel experience.

Thankfully, much of this is already taken care of when travelling on our carefully planned holidays.

Understanding Norway Trip Cost: Budgeting Your Holiday from India

Let's address the obvious. Norway isn't one of Europe's cheapest destinations. However, it offers exceptional value for travellers looking for spectacular natural experiences.

The overall cost depends on the time of year you travel, your choice of hotels, the length of your itinerary and whether you're travelling as part of a larger Scandinavian holiday or opting for a tailor-made experience.

Most Norway tour packages from India are part of a broader Nordic itinerary covering Sweden and Denmark, so the pricing usually reflects the complete journey rather than Norway alone. As a general guide, our all inclusive Scandinavian group tours with flights, hotels, internal transport, sightseeing, meals and more, typically start from around ₹2.7 lakh to ₹3.8 lakh per person, depending on the duration, inclusions and the number of countries covered.

Tailor-made holidays generally require a slightly higher investment, but they also offer significantly greater flexibility, personalised experiences and the freedom to explore Norway just the way you like.

Choosing the Right Norway Tour Package: Finding the Best Fit for Your Travel Style

The ideal holiday depends entirely on how you prefer to travel.

Families often enjoy well-paced Scandinavian group journeys covering Norway's major highlights alongside neighbouring countries. Couples may prefer personalised itineraries with additional time around the fjords, scenic railway journeys and boutique accommodation overlooking beautiful landscapes. For first-time visitors, longer Nordic group tours provide an excellent introduction to Norway and more without the stress of planning transport, accommodation and logistics independently.

However, travellers wanting to focus exclusively on Norway and its remote experiences generally choose our tailor-made holidays, allowing complete flexibility over destinations, duration and experiences.

Whether you're searching for Norway tour packages from Delhi, Norway tour packages from Mumbai, Norway tour packages from Bangalore, Norway tour packages from Ahmedabad or Norway tour packages from Chennai, we help create holidays exactly from where you want to travel.
